The Natural beauty of Belly Dance:
The natural beauty of Belly Dance comes out when the
dancer puts her own character into her movements. The style then forms
in accordance and harmony with her character. Every dancer has a
different way of observing, interpreting and introducing the movements.
Posture is very important, hand movements should be very flowing and
graceful, bottom should not be sticking out, eyes should be looking at
the audience, or admiring the movement. Hands present the work, so
if we are doing a hip drop a little hand movement of presenting the drop
would accentuate and complement the movement. Don’t do a movement
that your body is not used to, when you are performing for an audience:
It will show its immaturity. Your body should accept the movement
and make it its own first then you can display it for others to see.
Some movements are performed better with a big belly, big hips, long
hair, muscular arms, big breasts etc, and some are best performed with a
slender body. It is not important to have that particular shape, but
whatever shape you have as a dancer you must find the movements that
suit your body, and that is the key to its success. Choosing a
song to perform is also important. It should complement your
character and make you want to dance. I once chose a song at
random and didn’t feel that I performed well at all. I was waiting
for the song to finish, so I could leave the stage.
